Addiction Is A Disease

When we face the hardships of life it's hard to know which direction to turn for guidance. No matter what road of life you come from, it's easy to fall into a hole. Nowhere does it say there is something wrong with enjoying life, or looking for comfort, but there is always the deceitful darkness that will reach out to just about any of us. It's hard to see clearly when the world around us is foggy, and it makes it so easy to stumble. In these times, something so ugly can appear to be our best friend. It doesn't matter who you are, it doesn't matter where you come from, and this bittersweet disease can take hold of any of us. At first it feels so good, it numbs you of anything going on around you. But as the synthetic happiness manifests itself, it slowly becomes a disease. It's something we begin to rely on, blind to any consequence coming in result of our action. It starts consuming, abusing, and becoming a part of the everyday life. It's a need, a desire, a false state of peace that we see as our best friend; but it creeps up from behind with its little knife all ready to take the stabs. It's hard to see it coming when the consumption grows to such great heights. You're only fooling yourself at this point because the ones around you that love you are feeling the damage just as bad, the only difference is that they are conscious of the pain, the destruction, and the sickness. From the outside in, it is looked at as being selfish; you think it's easy to tell them to just put it down. Just call a quits and put a stop to all of it! You think the crying, the screaming, and the begging will maybe change their mind. But it's not that easy. Addiction is a disease. It's hard to cope, and it takes a toll on every one that’s apart of that poor, crumbling life. Before you know it the lotus has eaten at your entirety. The illness starts to show, it shows on the outside, the inside, and in every action. Hitting rock bottom isn't even enough because at this point, the hole is too deep to climb out on your own. The needle won’t help you out this time; it's only making it worse. The white smoke filling up so pretty in your glass pipe, the powder filling up your nostrils… they won’t catch you when you fall. And even on the hospital bed as you’re looking up at each person who sees the world in you with the pain streaming down from their eyes, you have only one thing on your mind. The track marks along your arm will never be enough to express how many burdens and how many cracks are in our hearts. The scars that those needles will leave you will never amount to the scars you have left in us. Step up and fight the battle that you've brought upon yourself and do everything you can to get out. It's not too late to ask for help, to ask for mercy, or forgiveness. You have to find your light somehow because time is only flying, and it's going by faster every day. Don't wait until it's too late because when the hand is given to you, you might throw off your fate and ruin everything that you could have had ahead of you. And remember that the comprehension is too great to understand the pain that you have inflicted on everyone around you. I once thought you could hear my soul crying out to you, I once thought that you were willing to put the pieces back together for me and make everything okay.  Now I feel like I am just wishful thinking. Get up and move from the past because the past is only the past and hanging on to your best memories won’t bring any of them back. Our maelstroms are what make us the living testimonies that we are meant to be.  And don’t worry because what happened wasn’t your fault.  Stop being weak and embrace the light in your life. We have no idea what tomorrow will bring us so don’t let today be a day of regret. No matter what you are facing now, nothing in life is temporary. Everyone stumbles and everyone has fallen, but you should never let the scrapes on your knees consume you. Your life does not only belong to you.
